I've been looking for a plain commander black and it seems there are a few serrated edged available but nobody has the plain.

Does a serrated edge really detract from a combat folder that much? it doesnt seem to me that it would, i just wanted the plain because i already have a serrated edged knife.

Also, one fella told me on the phone that emerson won't be sending plain edged commanders to dealers anymore, they'll only be available directly from emerson, therefore full retail.

Your buddy is correct. Emerson only sells non-serrated Commanders direct to customers. Lefty Commanders too.

Personally I prefer the nonserrated Commanders and older ones can be had resonably right here on BF.

In the UK we have only one importer of Emerson knives, but as far as the Commander goes, we can get only the non-serrated versions ! Strange eh ?

Regarding plain-edge commanders with black blade. I purchased mine in 1999 from RNJ Sports in Rowland Hts., Califonia. By belief is that they still may have one or two left. This is a small martial-arts store that also sells paintball equipment. They also sell knives and from what I can remember, I don't think they were selling very many of them. They had a plain-edge Commander as well as a plain-edge CQC7.
