I just started looking at picking up either a commander or CQC-15 and I noticed when people list them they are putting the year they were made. Are certain years better than others? Any years to avoid? Thanks all

Some years are definitely more desirable... 98 Commander for instance.

Emerson has changed various things on the Commander and most of there other models over the years, handle screw placement, thickness of the liners, type of material for the non locking side, flat head phillips screw, dome head phillips screw, etc.
Most recently the style of pivot was changed and the latest was going from a back spacer to standoffs.

Whenever I sell a Emerson I always list the year of manufacture so the buyer has a better idea of what they are getting.

Are they coming wth standoffs now instead of the backspacer?? Just picked up a CQC-10 a few months ago and it still has a backspacer, although the model year is 2012.

I " think " that the standoffs are being phased in as the year goes by. I'm sure that Emerson has a lot of backspacers on hand that will get used up before it's standoffs on every model.

So far this year I have picked up a couple of different models, 2013 CQC8 with the backspacer, 2013 CQC15 with standoffs.

The 2013 CQC15 with standoffs has the dome head Phillips screws while a 2013 Commander with standoffs that I looked at has the flat head Phillips screws for the handle... go figure.
