Commander blade shape

Hi all,

This is my first time on the forum. I'm a big Emerson Knife fan and have a question. I have 4 Commanders - a 2000, 2003, 2004 and recently purchased a 2005. Has anyone else noticed that the blade shape on the Commander has slightly changed near the front "belly" curved portion of the blade? My new 2005 blade has less of a curve or wide belly to the blade. I have seen pics of other 05 Commanders shaped the same way. I have also noticed that the G-10 scales are more squared off at the edges and have less of a bevel on the 05 Commanders.

Has anyone else noticed these changes?

Yes, I have noticed this too. The Commander is still an awesome knife and is my favorite for edc.

I agree. I still love the Commander and have been carrying one daily for 2 years. It just takes a me little getting used to the new blade. I really want a Super Commander if I could ever find one.

I have been carrying a Commander for 2 years, and haven't looked hard enough to notice. I was at a pawn shop investigating stolen property. I saw a Commander laying there with other knives. It was new, and still had a factory edge. There was no price tag so of course I had to ask how much. The employee was obviously not a "knife guy". He looked it over and said "$25.00 bucks". Of course, I was smiling as I walked out with my new Commander.

What a steal. What year was it and was it black-T or satin?

I have a 2000 satin serrated, 2003 black-T serrated, 2004 black-T plain edge and a 2005 satin serrated. I have 2 CQC-7s a CQC-13 and a Karambit but the Commanders are my favorites. I'm working on another but my wife won't give in.

It is a 2000 black-t serrated. I also have the Specwar black-t, and the Barrett M-50 black-t. I was carrying the Specwar one winter tramping through some deep snow drifts. I got soaked, along with the knife. A week later when I used it, you could tell the blade had been wet, but there was not any rust anywhere.

Yes, it ended at $955.00.

That LAPD Commander had the new style blade shape that I was talking about for those of you who saw it.

I wonder if any standard models will be available in the green G-10 with the green ceramic finish any time soon?

That baby went for $955.00 I think. That is one expensive Commander!

not really its about par for a custom emerson, they start at about $750 or so on the secondary market, ernie sells them for ~$500 but the waiting list is 8-10 yrs long, he makes only 12-15 knives a year FWIW.

i paid $700 for a LNIB CQC8 zero bevel grind and $900 for a LNIB CQC6, as high as it sounds not bad really, the '6 would go for $1200 to $1500 or so.

collecting custom spec war emersons is an expensive hobby to get into lol.

I think that LAPD Commander is a production Commander with green G-10 scales, green blade and the LAPD SWAT markings but maybe I'm wrong.

i thought it was one of the semi customs (ie hand made blade/production handle) but i could be wrong.

if its just a std commander with green G10 and different markings imho $955 is wayyy high, i can think of a lot of emersons i would rather have for $1K.

was looking on the "emerson" forum and saw a thread about this knife, it is simply a std commander with green G10 and logo's on it, no custom/semi custom, its only claim to fame is only a few were made, only 1 (this one) didnt have the officers name on it, not many will hit the aftermarket. is it worth the $$?? well, it was to the guy who bought it, but he's a serious emerson collector, and it fills a niche in his collection, general concensus was most folks would be better off spending that kinda money on a custom CQC8 or CQC6, other than the markings this is just a std commander.

but, the other general concensus was this was one expensive commander lol.
