Commander Durability?

I received my second Emerson yesterday,a 2000 Commander, and I am happy with the overall design. However, it does seem a little frail for a knife designed for extreme use. The liners are not very thick, and the stop pin looks smaller than the one on the CQC-7 I uses to own. How well do Commanders hold up in day to day use? Does Emerson use thicker liners, etc... on his custom models? I know a number of you carry a Commander regularly so your input would be greatly appreciated.

Ensure the pivot screw is adequately tightened. If you can remove the screw easily, it likely does not have Loctite 242 threadlocker on it. You may want to apply a drop of Loctite 242 removable threadlocker to the screw and tighten it to your desired blade-handle stiffness. Looser is easier to flip, but also less stiff. Let the Loctite set up overnight.

Hi, congrats to your Commander, it's an awesome knife!

Please note that the stop pin is solid, a lot of knives use hollow "tubes" as stop pins, thus they look thicker but aren't

Hope that you got what i meant!

Enjoy your Commander!

Remember the liners are made of Titanium. They do not have to be super thick to be strong. Blade is more than thick enough to withstand super hard use.

The Commander is solid knife, no matter the generation.

I posted a string on the changes that have been made since the designs inseption. The stop pin is the same, from day one. Having carried one from damn near day one in '98, I feel qualified to say they hold up.

Personally, I like the older, thicker Commanders. They just "feel right". Other then that, I love the newer blade grind which holds blade thickness further out to the tip.

There is something I just noticed about my Commander; the blade stop pin is at a slight angle which precludes it from coming in full contact with the blade. instead, just one corner of the blade hits the stop pin. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Kevin

I think tht the newest blade geometry is superior to the older Commander grind. Not only is the blade thicker farther out but it has a far superior point for piercing. Much better design than the 98-99.

If the scales were just a BIT thicker I would love it. Liners are thick enough.
