Hi i usualy carry the CQC-12 for my edc. It serves me incradibly well as it is good for SD and utility work. i was wondering what people thought about the supper commander in terms of self defence and i allways believe you should have a back of incase the CQC-12 is inacsessable (in the car, different room, whatever it may be)

hi, i usually carry two emersons, a cqc7 and a combat kerambit. regardless of size, as long as you are familiar with your knife and the placement is accessable, any will suffice as a sd in my opinion. bottom line, you have to be comfortable and confident in your choice and practice with it.

commanders work just fine for SD i prefer the '12 though myself, better lock, better blade shape imho, nothing wrong w/a commander though.

Ok thanx guys, i am going to leave for boot camp in about a month and i have chosen infantry as my MOS so i wanted to know about a folding knife that could backup as a SD wepon if needbe. your right though anything you practice with whether its a pencil or a knife can be deadly, but ofcourse you want what is the most effective choice of them all.

i was just conncerned about the commander for SD due to the tip, it doesnt seem as sharp for stabbing as does the CQC 12

i have found a tanto tip pierces better than drop points, so maybe the cqc12 has an edge here (it has a tanto, right?).
anyway good luck in boot camp.
