Commander Lock Failure

While practicing snap cuts with my Commander the lock failed...and the rest is history! (One nasty cut to my knuckle on the index finger) Is there anything I can do to improve the lock up on my knife or should I just remove snap cuts from my practice?

1)Disassemble knife
2)Bend liner to the right so it engages tang over to the right, or at least the centre
3)Do not allow the liner to engage only on the left, that doesn't work for emersons, as the liners are thin. It works for sebby, as the liner/frame is thick.
4)For emerson the liner must engage in the centre or to the right. NOT to the left. If it is on the left, it slips off too easily. Make it engage in the centre or to the right and the liner won't slip off....it it fails, it will fail to the right and jam the blade from closing.
5)Once you do this, you should not have problems.

Qualities of emerson:
1)speed
2)can disassemble

shortcomings:
1)linerlock not as strong as chinook, axis, framelock, etc
2)emerson linerlock needs experience to get it right....but once you know how to manage it, it is acceptable.

Take care and enjoy your comm. I am carrying my 2004 now, it has not given me any problems for a long time(or once I got used to maintaining it).

or ya could send it to EKI to fix.

EKI service is fantastic.

Hopefully Emerson will make a frame lock version of the Commander soon. The HD-7 and CQC-12 are both excellent and offer speed, ease of disassembly, and strength.

What exactly was it that caused the failure? Was it the blade upon impacting a target? Or some part of your forefinger that may have compromised the liners lockup against the blades tang ramp?
