Commander, old verses new

Does anyone have any thoughts on the old Commander versus the new version. Thanks to pictures supplied for my previous post, the newer version has slightly thinner liners/G10?, traction grooves on the to of the liners and has the 2nd ball detent. I'd probably prefer the thicker handle with the grooves and ball detent. Does the thinner liners result in a less secure lock-up?
If anyone has both versions I'd like to hear your comments

Believe it or not (

), I have both new and old versions of the Commander. I love them all!

If I could only have one, it would be my original '98 old style Commander. It is absolutely the best feeling, smoothest knife I own. After two years of daily carry, the finish isn't what I would call "mint" any more

, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I should probably keep this to myself, but my back-up carry Commander is off getting thicker Micarta scales placed on it so that it'll have the feel of the older ones.

Older one is by far superior. I had #124 and like an idiot, sold it. I thought I would be able to get the same satin finish in the future. I also have one of the new CN models. I like the serrations on the back for the thumb. I also like the thinness. I don't like the amount of flex and the poor lock up of the newer design. If anyone is listening, I say go back to the original design.

I have #063 of the first run, and it feels equal to all the custom Emerson folders I have ever handled, bar none. Seriously, at least with mine it was apparent that it had been assembled by someone who took great care and time. Lock up is superb, handles feel beefy, ultra secure.

Don't own a any of the newer series of Commanders, but have handled quite a few. My buddy bought one after playing with mine, and while still an outstanding knife, it just isn't in the same category as the first run. Not that it has any glaring faults, locks up okay, but just fills less refined, not as smooth, thinner, less substantial.

That's not what I wanted to hear guys! My new Commander should be at the front door today or tommorrow and I wish it had the thicker handle. Oh well, better late than never.

Thanks for the replies guys
