Commander or CQC-8?

I am a police officer and posted a thread about getting the Commander for on duty carry. This will be my first Emerson. However I think that I really like the looks of the CQC-8. Can anyone post their opinions or recommendations? Thanks
 
personally i like the cqc8 better due to the more conventional blade shape. both are good knives and hefty in the hand . if self defense is your concern , take a good hard look at th cqc8. its fast in the hand and the blade profile will stick and slash where the commander is geard more to just slashing . both are good just pick one .one more thing , the 8 is easier to sharpen.this all is imho.
 
The CQC-8 comes in only one size, the Commanders will this year come in 3 sizes 'Mini' - 'Com' - 'SUPER' from what i've read.

I suppose you have to decide on what it's main use will be ?.
 
i have had both and very much prefer the '8, i like the blade shape better, handle too, the commander is also a good one but its just never been my fav EKI, other than the raven the commander is probably dead last for me.

why? mostly aesthetics, i suppose, buy i sure like the '12,'13, and '8 a lot better,

as far as diff sizes, i suppose if ya need a smaller one, then the commander would be what ya want, i dont carry mini's myself, and the super isnt much bigger, IIRC the blade is 4".
 
best advice i can give is if you can find a retailer nearby excellent..get in there and handle them...if not i hear someone in another thread say to just buy one...if you dont like it, there is gona be a buyer for it
 
I have the mini-Commander, the regular Commander, a Super-Commander, as well as a custom 8. I kinda prefer the CQC8's ergonomics, as well as the shape. Handle Ergonomics are similar to that of a Commander, but the 8's blade is much easier to sharpen.

FYI.... there's a Super Commander and an HMMV-K up on Ebay if you're interested... Both are kinda limited.... I'm not the seller but I know the person and he's a good guy.....
