Commander or Mach 1?

I recently sold my only Emerson, a production CQC-7, to a co-worker. Now I really miss having one around. Instead of another CQC-7 I am considering the Commander and the Mach 1. What are the opinions on these two knives? I will be carrying it as my primary utility/defense folder.

Thanks,
Kevin

I'll take both! The Mach 1's really awesome, it has, IMHO -- a sleeker profile.

COMMANDER.

"Though a man should conquer a thousand times a thousand men in battle,
He who conquers himself is the greatest warrior."

"This is the law:
There is no possible victory in defense, The Sword is more important than the shield, And skill is more important than either, The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental."

THE COMMANDER IS MORE FUN TO OWN. It's true! OK, now that I got that off my chest here's what I think.

It really depends what you truely need the knife to do. If you are going out in the field and need a utility knife I would advise you to go with the MACH-1, plain edge.
Defensively the COMMANDER is THE choice. If you were working on a boat the COMMANDER is also a good choice due to its line cutting ability. The reverse curve rips through polypro and other synthetic lines very well.
Otherwise, as a general utility knife I don't think the COMMANDER is as well suited as the MACH-1.

JEERS to follow.

I currently own the Commander but I have only seen pics of the Mach 1(very nice knife BTW). Of the two I would go for the Commander. Don't get me wrong, the Mach 1 is on my "must have" list, but the Commander kicks butt.

What about the quality issues I have heard about? I will have to mail order my Commander and im a little worried about getting a lemon. Has Emerson corrected their QC issues? Also, who is a good internet knife dealer to buy a Commander from that will have a plain edge version in stock?

Thanks,
Kevin

As far as QC goes, the chances of getting a lemon commander vs. a lemon mach-1 are about the same 0.1%

IMHO, despite all the moaning and groaning that goes on in this forum, EKI has good QC.
Besides, it shouldn't make a difference if you get it straight from the factory or from a dealer, online or otherwise. As far as I know (and I could be mistaken on this), dealers don't take knives out of the box and inspect them.

As far as which one to get...I would actuallyget a SOCFK spearpoint. It's not as beeff as the commander, but the handle is awesome, better than the mach-1 I think, and it has the all powerful, omnipotent WAVE!!

I ordered a Commander from Triple Aught Designs. They said that they would go over the one they send me, so hopefully I will get a good one. Thanks for all of your input.

COMMANDER!!!! I looked at the Mach-1 and the Commander about a month ago, and I went with the Commander because it is an AWESOME knife....

I will be getting the Mach-1 next however

If you are not living on the edge, then you are taking up to much room!
