Got some unexpected funds today, and can not decide if I want a 4" Blade, or 3.4" Blade for a EDC. Leaning toward the Standard Commander.

The regular Commander is NOT 3.4". That is a typo on the Emerson website. It's 3.75".

Check your local laws concerning blade length. A 4" blade is right on the line in many places.

Yeah don't go by the emerson website for blade lengths on the commander there's all kinds of crazy info. The jungle commander is shorter than a regular commander on the site, stuff like that. You don't gain much blade length with the super, but you do gain some sizable handle, to me that's the deciding factor.

I vote mini. Super is great, but mini is a fantastic edc. Having said that I plan on getting a micro, regular, and uber at some point, but the mini does just great all on its own.

Big handle, big blade. Great hard use knife. It looks huge even in my fat hand. But the ergonomics are excellent.

I agree, I picked one up(regular Commander) from a member here on the Exchange and it's one of the best as far as ergos and of course it's sharp as hell. Did you hear that? Damn that Super Commander is calling to me...

Yeah - I never realized till this thread the actual sizes of the Commander. The mini FWIW is actually noticeably bigger than the HEST from DPx....so even the mini is a good chunk of blade and handle. No doubt the Commander will be my next piece of steel, hopefully I can swing a good deal for it.

I would suggest no serrations, I personally don't like them. Now having that said I should also mention that serrations work better than normal on a knife with a recurve like this. My suggestion is get the knife without them, than latter if you decide that serrations are something you want you can always have them installed, but you can't have them removed without looking like crap.

Are you saying I can send the knife in to Emerson Company after the fact for SERRATION upgrade?

You can do that at anytime. Personally, I love the serrations on my Super Commander and EDC it quite a bit.

On the other hand, my other EDC is a Super 7 black tanto that I purposefully bought as a plain blade to make it easier to sharpen.
