Commander Question...

I am interested in purchasing/trading-for a Commander and wondered what is the advantage/disadvantage of Chromium Nitride as compared to a regular finish? Thanks, Dan

I had a Commander with a Chromium Nitride (dull silver finish) blade. And I now have one with BT. I called Emerson's tech dept. and asked the question you are asking. They say that the CN is extreemly hard and tough and great for protecting the blade against everything you could encounter. It will not likely scratch off either. Also it brings the Rockwell hardness of the blade up a few points. They also said it was very expensive to manufacture. I would get one if you can. Who knows how long they will make these. I got rid of mine because the rest of the knife was a complete lemon. I now use and love a year 2000 BT model. All is perfect with this knife. I'm not too worried about scratching this blade as it's an everyday user for me. The BT still protects after it is scratched off. It's imbedded in the steel. I hope this helps.
