There is a guy where I work that is selling a 2000 Commander. The grind is the old style like the 98's and the G10 scales are thicker like the older Commander. It's definately a little beefier than my brand new 2000. Are these worth any more than a new style 2000? If so I might try to trade him this brand new shiny one for his used one:D

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Are you sure its a 2000? I have never seen one with thick liners/scales. I have 4 98s and 1 2000 model and the scales on the 2000 are thin as are the liners.
michael :D

Yea, it's a 2000 alright. The scales are noticably different from my new 2000. The grind is the chisel/ one sided style versus the more conventional double grind of my new one. When he showed it to me I was sure it was going to say 98 or 99 but it was a 2000.

It's a chisel - like, the back side of the blade is flat? Sounds like an ES1-M or the CM-1 to me - customs (at least, I think the CM-1 was a custom...)

It's definately a production Commander. I didn't really look at the liners to see if they were thicker but the scales and grind were like the earlier models. It looks like maybe it was produced while they were transitioning to the new style. Maybe a few of the 2000's were made like the older ones.

I just procured a Commander that has 2000 on the blade. The liners measure .050" and the scales are .110 (apprx). Chisel grind.
Molexey, is this what you are talking about?
Curious,

Yea that's it. I like the way it feels better than my new 2000. Are these worth any more than a new style 2000?

I'm no expert in valuations regarding Emersons. This is my first purchase. Right now, I am trying to figure out the best way to sharpen the thing. My Sharpmaker 204 doesn't seem to have the angle that the Commander came with. Anyone give me the best technique to sharpen the chisel grind with out distorting the original angle?
I am impressed with the comfort of the handle and how easily the blade flies open with a flick of the wrist. Many expert warn against excessive "flicking". How do the Emersons stack up in this aspect?
Pros and cons?
Regards,
Barry H
