Commander questions / Emmerson Service decent?

I am about to order a Commander and I had a few questions.
How exactly has the blade configuration changed on the Commander since 99 and why was it done? Better or worse? Why the extra detent on the new version and thinner scales?? I have heard many say they like the new version better... Many do not. Has Emerson ever explained the changes?

Thanks,

Ben

Is Emmerson customer service any good? Are they responsive to problems of complaints?
Is the turn-around time reasonable?

Emerson Knives customer servoce is one of the best in the business. They have always been prompt when I have requested services and never charge for anything other than return postage. I have one of the 2000 satin finished Commanders and it's lock up is perfect, the scale width has changed since 98, but I can't really feel the differnece from my 98 Commander, and fit and finish is flawless.

Hi Bennett, You won't be disappointed with your new Commander, I just got one and I can't put it down.
As John Hollister has kindly noted on a previous post of mine, the new Commanders have thinner handles- the liners are slightly thinner and the G10 scales are a lot thinner. However, they are still thicker than anything Benchmade uses. The new models have a thicker tip and a second ball detent. This ball detent, in my opinion is to keep the blade in a straight line for good lock-up purposes, It also keeps the blade in the closed position if the ball detent on the actual liner lock doesn't work. I maybe just unlucky but I haven't seen both detents working on any Emerson yet. However, it's only a minor problem.

Get one, you won't look back.

Pete
