hello to all - am thinking of trading for a commander, and the one i am talking about trading for has had the blade edge redone, to make it a conventional grind, which ya would sharpen on both sides (?) my question, is the commander some sort of chisel edge grind?? the knife looks like a regular grind from pics, and i dont recall the commander i looked at having a chisel grind - i am lost, would someone please explain WTF the deal is?? the individual had someone reprofile the dge to were ya could sharpen both sides, is what i was told - i just dont understand, if its not a chisel grind......

thanks for any info.....

Hi!

The blade of the commander sports a conventional grind, but the actual edge is chisel.

So it's actually a mix of conventional grind and chisel.
(the blade is not flat on one side)

Get a commander, i'm sure you'll be pleased, if not, e-mail me and i'm sure i could trade you something for it :)

many thanks 2sharp - i guess thats what the guy was trying to explain, but it got lost in translation somehow lol - i think i will go ahead w/the trade - i'm trading a BM 42BLK for it .......

Ohhhh....the choise between a Commander and a good bali-song like the Benchmade 42 is for me a hard one.

I wish that i'd known... :)
Can't have too many Emerson knives, can't have too many bali-songs....
(finally edited for spelling..)

Ooops, a few beers makes me do wierd things.

Was just trying to edit for spelling, sorry!

See2, that's about as silly as silly Jonas' question of "who wants thin liners for their ESM1??"

OFCOURSE :) if it's not that nasty xmas tree green (and true OD), I might go for one of each :p.. oh slave to marketting am I.

Hey S!

Awfully good to see you around :)
We need to share a few beers, as always i'm trying to attend Bladeshow, hope to be there 2002...

LOL!! You know, the "true" OD green wasn't really high on my list either, until I got a SOCFK with 'em. They kinda grew on me.... like mold. :D

JONAS!!! Buddy, how ya been? Still closing bars over there? :D I WILL be at Blade '02. We WILL get drunk, and discuss the finer points of being Suspects in the vicinity of the Master. :D

maybe I have to check again my first impression of the greed handles wasnt too good.. I liek the GT blade coating though.. oh well we will have to see.. Josh said they were going to try to get the same linene micarta they use on thei customs.. I wish that were true but if anyone can twist emerson' arm it'd be TAD =p.

Silly JOnas.. anytime.. we'll get a few beers and talk abtou how much we liek thin liners for our emerson knives :D

Ooooo... linen micarta, huh?? I LIKE the OD micarta Ernie uses on the customs!! Or, now this is going out on a limb, maybe SCULPTED G10?? That'd be kick ass! :D

Heey, don't tease me for the thin liners thing, i'm Swedish you know... ;)

I'd love to be at Bladeshow, the big problem is getting the, at least 3K bucks i need to spend on knives...and paying for the lodging and travel.
Why was i born here, in this knife/weapon poor country??

Another problem will be to afford all the beers for the good people i've met here at BF :)
So if anyone see a piss-drunk fella with bald head and a heavy backpack at Bladeshow it's probably me

Hope to see ya all!

..did someone say "linen micarta" and "sculpted" in the same sentence? in a thread about a large size commander??

Oh mi goood... nirvana... ;)
Just tell me that there will be CQC 8's too and then i know i'm dreaming...

get Simonich drunk. Mayo says he'll do anytign once you get him plastered enough :) there you got your beers covered.. then you can cover ME!

sorry again to Mr. Sifu for cluttering the thread :p

Just as a side note, the Green Micarta used on Ernie's customs is Canvas, not Linen.

Linen has a much finer grain. As an example, MT used Green Linen Micarta in thier "Tactical" LCC series:

To compare "Apples" to "Apples", both of these pictures were pirated from Triple Aught Design. I hope Patrick doesn't mind.

This is a picture of a special LCC that MT did. One of less then a handfull they did with Green Canvas Micarta:

For those that haven't seen it (), here is the Commander I had done by David Brunner in Green Canvas Micarta:

And a picture of one with Canvas and one with Linen Micarta:

Personally, I prefer Canvas.
