Commander Serial Numbers

My new Commander is a 2000 model with no serial number. I figured that EKI didn't serialize knives until 2001, then I saw the 98 on ebay that had a serial number. Are there only a certain number per year that are serialized? Do you only get a serial number if you order from the EKI website. This is not a major concern for me, but I was curious.

When a new production knife is launched by EKI a designated number are given a serial number. The actual number seems to vary with the knife, so do not worry you are not missign anything by not having a serial number on your new Commander.

Regards,

Ed

Eds correct. EKI used to (and still does) number the first thousand of each model . . . aka the resaon everything was serialized in 1998.

I was talking with Derek some time ago and got the impression that we may start to see all models coming out serialized. This is not in concrete as I am pulling it from memory.

last time I talkedto Derek in the CA shows he did say somethign like "we're markin everything with patents and serial numbers now".. so is the wave finally patented?
