Commander Sharpening again!!

I know there have been numerous posts concerning the correct way of sharpening a Commander. I tried a Lansky system, with only mediocre results (due to the recurve of the blade). I have now ordered a Spyderco Sharpmaker after reading many postive posts. I have not received the Spyderco yet.

I have also read that Emerson recommends the best way is by simply using a crock stick. However, no posts have said, specifically, what model DMT stick (or sticks) to use.

I have been searching, on line, and find that numerous DMT sticks are available and I really need some specific information so I know what to buy. Thanks in advance.
 
I would get the DMT diamond rod that comes with the folding handles like a Butterfly Knife. Just for roughing the edge up quickly.

Other than that, my trusty old Spyderco SharpMaker and Pro-Filer Stones do the trick. Just use the stones in your hand instead of in the base of the Unit. Go slow and get a burr on the flat side of the blade and strop it off with a leather belt.

Try the Emerson website. It has explicit instructions (with photos) documenting sharpening of a Commander.

I use an EZLap M on mine, freehand...

beleive me, i found out the hard way,if all else fails, get a ceramic stone (i have a GATCO) it makes all the difference in the world, if ya want it scary sharp - have used mine on my M16-00 all the way up to my SIFU, w/my CQC7 in the middle - they work great - spyderco makes 1 about $45, i bet its the bomb.........mine cost $14, its supposed to be used w/the GATCO system, but i just hold mine like ya would a regular stone - WORKS GREAT!!!!!
