the commander is only sharpened on one side, i was wondering what the angle is. I've heard it's 25 degrees but i will end up sharpening it with a sharpmaker which will make the angle 20 degrees, will this be too thin? will it be too fragile?

Manji: You will find that sharpening a Commander can be quite tricky at first. I finally have the system down "pat", but it took quite a while. By the way: Emerson recommends a 30% angle on one side.

I have found that the very best sharpener to use on the recurve Commander blade is the Jewelstik 1-2-3. It is made by Hewlett Mfg. Here is their web site:

The Jewelstick offers 3 grades of diamond sharpening rod all on one stick. I sharpen my Commander, primarily on one side, by sight. I find that using pre selected degree systems do not work well, for me, on the Commander. Check out Emerson's web to see their sharpening directions, and simply use the Jewelstik.

Take it easy at first and don't rush it. I can now keep my user Commander nearly as sharp as my brand new one.
