I recall that EKI changed the tip profile on the Commander a year or two ago. My question is this - which of the following is the more contemporary profile:

FWIW, I just got the upper knife from their shop last week. Note both are marked as being 2000 production.

Here's a detail picture of the newer knife's tip:

Great picture of the tip. I've never gotten a shot that good.

That's a second generation tip grind. As you can see, it retains the blade thickness right out to the point, yet gives you an extremely sharp point for penetration.

what year of production did they frind change-post 98?
any advantage to the old grind (I always hear y'all talking about how great the 98 commander is-is it simply ergonomic, or the whole package?)
cheers,
Derek

The change was made in mid '99.

While I like the new tip grind, I also like the old (more traditional) style as well.

Hmm... Weird, as I noted above, BOTH of these are marked as 2000 production despite having different tip profiles.

John: Get a load of this scan of the tip!

Well now that's odd!

My Commander is a 2000 and doesn't look like either one of those pics.
On mine, the actual flat of the blade extends all the way out to the chisel grind.
The flat comes to a point about 1/64th from where the edge grind starts.
(Damn, wish I had a good camera!)

Do I have a fluke, or is there yet a third blade geometry for the Cmdr?

BTW Yeedude, EXCELLENT photography!

Ok, now I know you're putting us on.
That CAN'T be real, can it?

OK... I'll give out my secret - I'm using a high grade scanner to image my knives. And no, I'm not "cheating" and resizing the pictures - they're shown at actual output size.

Speaking of size - the SOFCK logo image is actually four or five times bigger than the direct link above. If you go to my SOFCK album and click through the image twice, you'll see the screen-filling logo spread across your monitor!
