Commander vs. CQC7 edge / out of the box

I have owned a couple of Commanders and CQC7s. Has anyone else ever noticed that the out of the box edge seems to be more "hair spliting" on the CQC7 than the Commander?

Is this just my imagination or is the blade shape (recurve) on the Commander more difficult to take an edge than the Tanto CQC7? I am speaking of the new, out of the box edge.

Jayharley,

You are correct. The 7's are sharper that the Commanders. Really, our true chisel ground blades, the "B" style tantos are all sharper (in theory) than any of the "Double-Vee" ground blades.

Assuming everything else is equal, the smaller included angle created by having one side totally flat is capable of a sharper edge.

imho ya cant get a really fine edge on a chisel grind blade, although i think my BM stryker is (a little) sharper than my CQC7, and i was having problems with the lock on it (which they fixed, free, and had it back w/in a wk) and asked that they re-sharpen for me while they had it (which they also did, free) and its just not THAT sharp, ya know sharp enough for the intended purpose, but it doesnt shave hair. and i have tried everything in the world on it(DMT,GATCO,Lansky, plain old ark stone, leather strop, etc etc) - its the chisel edge, because i have a M16 by CRKT tanto that will shave easy, and its a tanto too. hey i still like it, just a shortcoming of the chisel edge imho - also i agree, my buddies commander is MUCH sharper than my CQC7

Hello!

My experience is that chisel ground blades doesn't feel as sharp as the regular grinds do, but when applied to anything...they cut like <font color=red>CRAZZZY<font color=black>.
But chisels don't shave as well, so i won't be sharpening my straight razor chisel style

for me, i have noticed that "Double-Vee" gound blades cut better if it is perpendicular with the object it is cutting.
But if you turn a chisel ground blade a few degrees either way, it will cut better.

that mite just be me old arthritis kikin in tho.
