Commander vs Sheepdog

I've always wanted a Commander, but never got around to actually getting one. So just recently I started to actively look into pulling the trigger on one, and BANG! I discover the Sheepdog! I would love to buy both but can afford it right now, and I know they are pretty different as far as design, but can you guys try talking me into one or the other? Thx!

I've never owned or even held a Sheepdog so I can't say anything about it.

However, I love the Commander series. I own and carry everyday my Mini Commander and appreciate it's ergos and cutting abilities. Also, they've got any size suitable for you and your needs from the Ubr to the Micro.

Keep us informed on what you pick up!

I own both and will tell you the commander is an awesome blade and I believe is useful in its design. It looks cool and will co all the tasks necessary. That being said I would choose the sheepdog (doesn't matter the Bowie or spear tip) just because it is packed full of features that are in other higher end knives that is pretty exclusive to the sheepdog. It has an ambi pocket clip (usually an option), flipper system (only the flipper 7 has this as well and acts as a great finger guard), ball bearing washers ( makes the blade action unbelievable smooth and actually the smoothest flipper out of the box I have ever tried) and is not to small or too large in blade length. Get the sheepdog first and when you get the money later you may see new Emerson models you may like.

Either one would be a good choice. I just got a Super Commander, it feels great in the hand, the G-10 is super grippy, Its one of the two knives in my emergency bag. I'll be getting a smaller Commander for edc soon. I'll have to get a Sheepdog as well, sold all my ZT flippers, except for the 0452cf, I guess I'll use it for a fillet knife.

They are two of my favorites! I have been carrying the sheepdog almost exclusively for a couple of months though. Fantastic blade in every way!

My trouble is, every so often I try and force myself into falling in love with the CQC 7 models and I just can't do it lol. It took me a while to realize that Emerson has ALOT of other designs that I'd probably really liked if I tried them, so I'm just overwhelming myself!

i own both. the commander i prefer, cause i feel the sheepdog is a bit small for my tastes. still a great knife though.

this is a truly personal thing....i'd pick the commander over the sheepdog everyday of the week, but that's me.

I'll switch it up a bit for ya!

I got into Emerson late in my knife life, and wish I started with Emerson in the beginning. The Commander called my name, but Emerson had just come out with the Patriot and Vindicator line. I got a Vindicator as my first Emerson, and could not have been happier. It's less of a recurve than the Commander, but has a lot of belly. Then I got the Sheepdog.

Between them both, the Vindicator gets carried a lot more. It just carries so easy, so such a large blade you hardly notice it. Between the Commander and Sheepdog, I'd whole heartedly throw in the Vindicator to the mix!

Vindicator...drooool. I like that one too. Blade is sexy. A lot like the Iron Dragon.

I'll give this a shot -

I own a Jungle Commander and a Bowie Sheepdog, both serrated.

I was really impressed with the Sheepdog. It's really smooth, stout, and has three means of deployment (I like that).
I was less impressed with the Commander. Stout and strong, like all Emersons, but the deployment left something to be desired. Mine has issues coming out with the wave.

If I had only one: Sheepdog all the way. But like everyone has already said, which one first? ;)
