I was looking at an Emerson Commander and it was missing the serial number. It had the right logo and year of manufacture and came with the right box and the paperwork that normally come with the package. With all the fakes flying around I got pretty apprehensive about it so I didnt buy it. The handle materials, screws, pivot screw and clip were all similar in look and feel to the knives I already have. Is it possible that its the genuine article? Did the factory make a run of a handful without the serial number?

Lastly, it was being sold within the normal price range for a commander, which added to my confusion.

I would give EKI a call. If need be, you even be able to talk to Mr.Emerson himself.

Also, not to take away from this forum here, but as far as Emerson Knives are concerned I would recommend checking out the USN.

Not to sound like I'm speaking bad about bladeforums. This is a good place as well. but the Emerson info is severely lacking here.

Definitely just contact EKI. They will get you sorted out. I know that at several times through out the history of EKI, there have been anomalies with blade markings (missing numbers, words, etc. and/or misprints of other kinds). It happens.

I got a misprinted 7V this year. Sent it back, and EKI sent me the right package. You should try to take some pics of the knife in question, though. If you can get 'em, that would certainly make things easier. Of course, if you're worried about it and it's in the Commander's normal pricerange anyways, I'd just buy a for-sure proper one and be done with it.

But I know you want that non-serialed one for collectability reasons (if it's legit I mean)

Ooohhh you know what I just thought it may be? Are you sure its not of the Size of a Super Commander?

There are Certain select Knives specifically made for the military, specially in the Past that are Totally sterile. Like the ES1-M (what became the commader knife, but is actually more of the Super Commader size) for the SEAL Teams years ago. And Current Black Journeymans, which are sterile and only avalible to very certain, will remain un-named group. and there have been others. If so this turns out to be something like this, you hit a real grail. and you know what that means.

You got me curious all over again. Ill drop by the place on Monday and check.

Calm down! Lol! There was a period that they were having a problem with the laser engraving of serial numbers, and a bunch did go out without any numbers.. I can't remember when this was, but I want to say late 2009 or early 2010.
