I just ordered a commander sight unseen. The blade is a "double v grind". I saw other literature that called the blade chisel grind. Does anyone know??

I just sold mine because I have too many custom knives. It is a GREAT knife! If I recall correctly, there is a fully grind on one side and part of a grind on the other side. I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

The blade is ground on both sides equally, but the edge is only ground on the left like a chisel.

The blade looks the same on both sides, not flat on one side like the CQC-7. The knife blade is only sharpened on one side. I used my Lansky to sharpen the other side and you can't even tell that it wasn't bought like that. Looks great.

I'm thinking of trading in my CQC7 on a Commander. Will I be happy I did it?

ptpalpha, I think that if your trade is a matter of simply getting a new knife you will find that the "wow" factor of the Commander makes it worthwhile. The Commander is one neat knife! If it is a matter of actual use on a daily basis I think that you will find that knives are very different in their method of cutting due to the extreme difference in blade geometry. Don't get me wrong though, they both cut clean as the day is long but they are very different knives. One thing's for sure, there's Emerson quality through and through in both knives.

Ark, good points. Actually, I was wondering whether the Commander is truly a superior defensive tool than the 'C7. Certainly it's bigger, and the ergonomics seem to be improved, especially for reverse grip. Is it heads and tails above the 'C7? Or is it simply a matter of personal preference? Bottom line (like you hadn't already guessed) is that I want one and am trying to justify it. Help me out, friends!

Almost forgot-how about the REKAT pocket hobbit vs. the Commander for a defensive carry piece? Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Ptpalpha

I have both the Commander and the CQC7b (tanto). Both are great knives. The Commander is top on my "daily carry" list because of its rugged construction, heft and wave feature (I'm a lefty and it'll will deploy for me faster than any auto I've seen).
Despite its reputation, I really prefer my C7 for general utility work, mainly because of the shorter blade and tanto tip.
If I had to only carry one knife -- for everything from utility to defense -- it would be the Commander without a doubt!

thanks, Blade. You've made my mind up. I must have a Commander. And by golly I'll keep the CQC7 too! I wanted the 'C7 for a long time before I actually got it, and I'm hoping that I can get the Commander sooner. I just have to figure out where the money's going to come from THIS time!

Good choice!
If you find you're not satisfied when you get it, let me know -- I just might want to buy another!
