Just received my commander today. Already bit me!!

Gotta question though. What is the backspacer made of? I have an '02 if that makes a difference. It seems like it may chip or 'wither' away easily. Ran my finger nail along it and some of it rubbed off.

Is this normal? Will it wear prematurely?

I don't know for certain, but I think it's micarta. I own a Super Commander that had a small flaw in the backspacer, but I sanded it down to where it disappeared completely (the flaw, not the spacer).

They are made of G10. That's what I've heard. The advantage above the plastic ones is a better protection against oil and lots of other chemical stuff and temperature.

FWIW I noticed the exact same thing on my Mini Commander that I received earlier this past week. Did the same thing with my fingernail with the same result and thought the same thing you did about it.
