Well, I had said that I was gonna get a carbon fiber military for a new work knife (and I may still), but the other day I got my hands on a emerson commander and decieded I had to get it.
I came to relize that I had begun buying knives (chinook2, sere, afcovert, leek, ect.) just because they were good knives. My plan now is to slim down my collection and only buy knives that I really love.
Anyhow, the commander was always a knife I admired, and I'm glad I finally got one. The lock is solid (for now at least), and I'd have to say that the fit and finish are equal to, if not slightly superior to may last spyderco and bm. The handle is extreemly comfortable, and allthough I usually perfer a pointier tip, the blade is very cool. The only negitive is that I worked out a deal for it in exchange for my emerson socfk, which was a really good knife too, but I guess I didn't "love" it.
As it stands I now only have 3 knives in my "collection" (civilian, commander, 806), and it feels good to only have knives that I really like. -Of course I still have another collection of users, but they're not really a collection so to speak.
-Next, 2 more users to get, - an sng (if I ever manage to save 400 bucks at a time) and that upgraded work knife.

I wouldn't worry about the lock on the Commander. A LOT of the "problems" you hear about with the Commander are based on neurosis over liner thickness or 3rd/4th party stories about "I had a buddy, who had a buddy..." You get the idea. The Commander is a great knife. Most EKIs are actually great, and if they DO get a problem EKI is very eager to work it out and make it right.

I just picked one up last week and I really like it too although I've been carrying a Spec Bump that I picked up at the same time. I've sworn to never buy a funky off side chisel grind again but this one is real close to being a conventional grind. I too had heard about problems with the locks but mine locks up really well and isn't even close to touching the opposite liner.
I still prefer my SnGs but then again I'm used to the Strider handle style.

I've owned an Emerson Commander for two years and really like it a lot. I can't wait to compare it to the Strider SmF I ordered today!
