Comment: my first Spyderco was an C-05 Economy - mail order from Cutlery Shoppe in 1989 - and I now own over 500 Spydies... as a general rule, I find the Taichung Spyderco knives have been the most impressive non-custom knives I own... i.e. I own over a dozen Brian Tighe custom knives, including 5 'Tighe-stick's - and the Spyderco version is equal to the customs in fit and finish at 1/3 the price! and the other day, with the price lowered, I broke down and purchased a Burch "Chubby" - the quality is amazing! worth 5 times what I paid for it!

question... was the Sage I the first Spyderco to be manufactured in Taichung? or were there earlier models I haven't noticed?

I had the same exact reaction when I opened up my Chubby!!
I had wanted it for a while, but couldn't justify it for >$200.
After getting one from KC for the sale price.......it is definitely worth $200. It is stupid solid and has amazing action! Lock up is perfect with a perfectly centered blade.
Really can't think of one flaw! I love that unique blade shape also!
Of all the Taichung Spydie's I have.......can't find a single flaw on any of them.

Forgot a pic!
Love this knife!! Got mine for little over $100 after cashing in my KC points!
At $139 this one is a literal steal!

I agree the Taichung Spydies are awesome! I too got in on the discounted Chubby... always wanted it, but $200 always seemed a little steep for that one. Now that I have it in hand, I can see it would have been worth it at its original price point. Another one I was lucky to pick up recently was the Hungarian... so many nice touches (and very affordable right now!). Taichung makes some of my favorites!

The "Chubby" is truly a 'little-big knife' - fits my large paw better than most other knives of it's size. (annnnnd... it bites just like other Spydies)
