After much deliberation between a La Griffe and a Spyderco Swick, I opted for a La Griffe.
Two (or three) questions abound:
1) Does the factory sheath allow you to have your finger in the hole while it's still in the sheath? If not, how drastically does it effect drawing the knife?
2) Should the factory sheath be, you know, not-so-good, who makes custom sheaths for the La Griffe?
3) Does anyone make a trainer for it?

Mine JUST arrived in the mail ten minutes before you posted:
1) Yes
2) The sheath it came with looks real nice, but you can do a search here under "LaGriffe."
3) I've seen trainers advertised at Blade Art and EDC Knives.
Best,
Gargs

Check Lifter's Leather for a sheath. Dave is good people and does damn nice work.

The la griffe is a great wee knife for super fast deploy, I'v got a few of them I use for things like fishing as well as urban carry.

There is two sheath styles that you can get with the lagriffe, one is shaped like the blade and the other is square.
Both those sheaths have the finger hole exposed as that is part of the deploy method for those kinves.

I find the sheaths to be just fine but I did make a custom sheath for one of mine with more rivet holes and orange kydex for high vis.
There is many capable sheath makers here on the forum who can bend you a bit of kydex or stitch up a but of leather :)

As for trainers I have seen Fred P. custom trainers but not really much else.
I have a Ti trainer I made a while back but never seemed to use it as I always just used the real one for deploy and cut drills any way.
I did use the trainer for a bit of grappling and other hand to hand stuff but was always more into the kerambits so it was never too often.

Having received my La Griffe today (Mon Dieu! C'est tout bien!). I'm feeling good about the sheath it came with.
As for those Perrin trainers, will they fit the Emerson sheath?

I'm thinking they probably won't fit too well TBH. They have a fatter point and don't have the hawk
bill blade shape. I also don't know what the over all size of those trainers are. They might not be
an exact fit but may well be good enough for a training session but they also might not fit at all.

Where would be a good place to look for an Emerson trainer? Would there be a better place than asking a machinist?

Also, has anyone ever had troubles with the knife falling out of the sheath? Mine has been snug and secure every time, but I get a little nervous because I used to carry a Cold Steel Super Edge that felt snug, but I lost it unaware that it'd fallen out.
I wore that from a belt loop, though. I don't know if that'd effect things.

The ones I posted a pic of are from EDCknives.com, they appear to be instock and are not
expensive at all. You could get a maker to do you one or a machine shop may well take on the work.

As to retention of the blade in the sheath I would have no worries. I carry a la griffe for all sorts
of activities from fishing and hiking to snowboarding and parkur as well as MA training. I have
never had any problems and find its actually a perfect little knife for such things. Its light easy
to carry, easy to deploy and easy to use......... Infact I think I need a couple more :p:thumbup:

As I said in my first answer, trainers are at Blade Art and EDC knive (though they may be out of them at EDC).

The ones at EDC and Blade Art are, strictly speaking, Perrin trainers. I'm speaking of the idea of a strictly Emerson version trainer. And kinda secretly hoping Ernie is reading this and deciding that one is a great idea.

Just no one suggest more. I was thinking I should get another one for a user and keeping one strictly as a secondary knife, so I'd become very comfortable cutting with one while still keeping an impeccably sharp one at all times. But, dammit, I've bought entirely too many knives lately to be buying *another* La Griffe. Luckily for me all of the knife dealers seem to be out of stock.
I do loves me this knife, though.

Also, where can I get sheath mounting accessories? That Tek Lok looks like it'd make the knife stick out like a box of cornflakes, and I don't know where to look for the kind of alligator clip you'd get with a HAK. Ideas?
