Comments on MT Amphibian anyone?

I was at the gun store on Saturday admiring knives as usual when I ran across the the MT Amphibian - a manual operating knife (don't care for autos) with a very nice looking relatively large reverse curve blade and, sweet ergonomic handle, clip for tip-up carry, lightweight and with the best operating liner lock that I have seen to date. In my opinion its liner lock hands-down beat my previous favorite - the Sere 2000. The multiple liners (laminated) reeked of strength and integrity. It strikes me as the way all liner locks should be built.

Its a discontinued knife but, that doesn't mean its flawed as we have seen many knives come and go. Its just part of change, you know. I would like to hear comments from anyone who owns, or has owned, one.

I own six Microtech now, including the Amphibian, and plan on owning more. I love there knives! If you like the look and feel of the Amphib then don't hesitate. grab it!

I found mine on ebay at a great price and snapped it up. It's the all black tactical version with the partially serrated edge. I normally don't like a serrated edge but Microtech does it right with really aggressive teeth, fangs even, that cover half the blade. The action is smooth and the lock is TIGHT! Your right about that spring loaded lock; that baby it SOLID! Great blade steel with 154cm. Mine came razor sharp and is easy to touch up with my sharpmaker. Nice clip that holds tight but not wedgey inducing tight when you pull the knife out. No lanyard/sinnet hole though, which I like on tip up carry folders.

They only thing I don't like about the knife is the thumbstud/ramp. Because of it's shape and placement you can't really snap the blade open by flicking it with your thumb. Found that out the hard way. Also how I know just how sharp and agressive the serrations are. It's better to just push it all the way open with the thumb in one motion. I just normally prefer to flip open folders with my thumb.

Anyway, long story short... Buy it quick before someone else does. :)

Well.. mine doesnt get any use but out of the 20 or so knives I own, it is one of my favourites :)

I'd snap it up and wouldnt regret it!

Thanks for the comments. I have decided to buy it. I need a MT in my collection anyway. And, I really like the liner lock mechanism on this knife - its one of the few that I like.

Right desidion! I have Amphibian and very pleased with it as well as with MiniSOCOM Elite I also have. What makes it different from other knives - very thin edge! As a result cutting is just a pleasure.

Build quallity and mechanics always best, also you may notice that handle is not flat as all other knives have - bit thinner to the butt.

Mine is a 2002 model so I don't know if it's different from yours or not - but mine has a recessed area at the top of the back end that has a peg in there that looks like it was made for slipping a lanyard through.

My wife has carried an auto version for a long while now. She loves it. Of all the knives she has carried over all the years, this is her favorite. Paul
