Entered this in review forum and no responses. Picked a 722 Tanto up with the ATS-34 blade. Like the size of the handle and the blade length. Not sure I am sold on the Tanto for EDC. Spearpoint may have been a better choice. Comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Although I've never handled a BM 722, I traded for one this weekend, and should receive it either Tuesday or Wednesday . I have a feeling that this one will replace my BM 705s as my "utility" EDC as it is just alittle larger than my BM 705s (3.25 inch blade, VS: a 2.95 inch blade), and I think that it might survive more hard use/abuse if called upon to do so than the little BM 705 would...Especially if it ever had to be used in a "sharpened pry-bar" role.).

I had a BM720, which has the aluminum handles and bowie blade as opposed to the G10 handles and tanto blade on the 722 and I enjoyed that knife. So far that knife was the only axis lock that I have had (chosen because it was available in tip-down) and it was probably the smoothest opening folder I owned. Very solidly built and a nice hand-filling handle. The 720 was a little on the heavy side as compared to many folders of similar size, but not too heavy to be carried. The (americanized) tanto isn't my first choice of blade profiles, but I don't see a problem with it being EDC. Very well-built knife.

I gave mine away last summer. Regret it.

It is a very good knife and did all sorts of stuff that I wouldn't do with my Sebenza ie. prying paint cans open and scraping tape off walls when we were remodeling.

One of those knives that I didn't really think about or fully appreciate until it was gone.

Thanks to those of you who commented on the 722. It is a very attractive knife. We will see how the Tanto works out as EDC. It is new in the box. Two weeks ago I didn't own a BM. Now I have the 551 Grip and the 722 in new blue boxes. I fear that a 732 or 735 will be coming to my house before long. This is bad.....this is really, really bad.......

Future comments on the 722 and 735 would be appreciated as you guys put yours through the world of hard knocks.

My job requires that my knife be sharp, tough, and ready. It is amazing how the old S&W Swat with half serrated BT blade is hanging in there.

My 722 also has the ATS-34, but I think the newer ones have 154CM (really not much, if any, difference).

The things I really love about the 722:

Extremely strong design and contruction. You can tell this one was built to last.
The Axis-lock is terrific.
The handle is very comfortable and really fills the hand--Mel Pardue really knows how to design a comfortable handle.
It's not very heavy for such a strong knife.
The clip allows the knife to ride very low in the pocket.

Things I don't love about the 722:

The blade could be about 1" longer. Maybe it's because I'm used to the 4 1/8" Spyderco Police blade.
The thumbstuds get in the way when I'm trying to sharpen the blade.
The blade is just a little too thick for my taste.

#1 thing I don't love:
The tanto-blade.
This is my first tanto-blade knife and I have learned that I would rather have a clip-point or drop-point blade. But that is just my personal preference.

Good luck,
Allen.

Well, I received my 722 today, and it has the typical Benchmade quality that I've come to appreciate, and then some...

This is one stout folder that wants to be used. As usual, the Axis-lock is solid and smooth as butter. The handle is excellent, and feels GREAT in my hand. The closed back is a change for me, as I'm more familliar with the open back of the 705, 710, 805, etc., (but I'll get used to it.:).).

I have been carrying my 722 for several months now and find that the longer I carry it the more I like it.I am surprised to find that I actually prefer the tanto blade for my real world daily cutting chores. My biggest surprise is the fact that I haven't even considered buying another knife since I got my 722.I guess I've found my perfect knife and the hunt is over.....................for now.
