Hi folks,

A question for the knife makers; who here likes people posting comments and feedback on their sales threads and who doesn't? I'm asking partly out of curiosity and partly out of courtesy.

I figure there are some pros and cons to comments on your thread; they keep it alive and active but might be seen as junking it up. They might provide some insight but on rare occasions might end up with some criticism or comments that aren't helpful.

For those who like the comments, is there any kind of feedback you're really looking for?

I would love to hear the knife makers' thoughts on the matter...aaaand I'll try to keep it in mind before I post comments myself :)

I'm not a knife-maker, but I consider it clutter. The rules state that such commentary isn't allowed in the general exchange, only in the knife-maker's section...and only if the maker/seller requests and welcomes it. I don't see that request in most ads; but the comments come anyway. I'm sure that the ego stroke is nice, especially when it comes from other respected makers; but it can hinder sales, as those posts can make it more difficult to tell if the knife is still available.

I think it's ok. It used to be against the rules, but since they fixed it that threads can't be bumped to the top, it's allowed.

It's a way for loyal customers to show moral support, and for people to know what a great deal they'd get if they bought the item. :)

I encourage comments or questions on my sales threads. Anything that could harm a sale should not be posted there though. Others may feel differently about it.

I put one comment on one sales thread (after the sale was completed) and received a warning. I won't try it again.

The rules are different when selling production knives/gear. In the customs by maker section you will often see multiple comments in a sales thread.

Usually now my only comment is "I'll take it" . And now with the price of our dollar it doesn't happen often.

The ironic thing is I've never felt comfortable posting in your threads. I think it's because your work is always so damn perfect I feel I'm too shabby to be near it, like the guy who rocks up at a formal event wearing a dirty t shirt :D

I used to read through the custom sales thread and post sometimes when I saw something that was just too cool. I didnt realize at first there is a little checkbox that allows you to NOT include your signature If you have one. I would recommend using that feature. For my own sales threads I dont mind at all people posting , especially asking an important question I may have forgot to include in the description.
