I recently made a new design for a khukuri I call the "Himalayan Prince" which will be comming to the market soon. Aunt yangdu was kind enough to let me post my first new design on blade fourm. Aunt Yangdu is going to sent this design to the shops kami's to be made.

The blade of this beauty is 11 inches long. The handlel's length is 6 inches long (long enough for most your hand). The width of the handle is 1 1/2 inches wide. The grip would be 3 1/2 inches. Together the "Himalayan Prince" is 17 inches long, which would be 1 feet and 5 inches. This is just the estamation of the khukuri. The measurements arent accurate and could change. I'm still working on the final blue print.

The handle will be made out of Dhar wood or horn. Some of the carving's on the handle will be made out of gold or silver BRASS ( very fancy for a handle huh [: ).

The karda and the Chakma are also specially designed by me. They have special carvings on them.

If you have any suggestion, please feel free to email them to me and aunt Yangu at himimp@aol.com or just post them. We would really love to know what you think about the "Himalayan Prince".

That Looks like a very handsome khukuri.....made for a Himalayan Prince.
I like it and can't wait to see what it looks like when made.
My only suggestion would be to make it a bit smaller...as a palace or dress khukuri.
When you start getting 17 + inches and above, the khukuri tend to look and feel somewhat monstrous in proportion. To my eye and hands a 12-15 inch khukuri is quite nice proportionately and very wieldy.
That is just my opinion and my personal size preference.

Pretty cool. I can't say I'm a fan of really intricate models, but it will probably appeal to some of us. Have you thought about adding some inlaid brass onto the Aunlo Bal i.e. the grooves near the spine of the khuk. I have one khukuri with this design, and it's bloody beautiful.

Edit: I agree with Karda about the size of the khukuri.

I like the design already. What does it say on the devanagiri above U.B? i'm thinking "U.B" should be written in devanagiri as well.
Some colorful stones on the handle would be nice; crystallized handle with gold and silver feel.

What's the inspiration behind the expanding bolster? I'm thinking you might need a Kothimoda-esque sheath to match. Maybe it will look too "busy".

A bit of a Salyan's shadow. I agree with all- Maximum of 15 inch will be better.

Good job! Let's see how it will look.:thumbup:

Dhar wood? calling Cotherion...:)

Well, as the owner of one of the smaller Salyan's, I can tell you the only thing that disappoints me is how small the blade on it is. In keeping though
with HI traditional methods, it has an OAL of 12.5". I missed the 15" one and personally would have been the happiest had there been one in the 18" range.

In short, if I were this Prince, I'd be wanting THIS khukuri that she has described but with this addition... I would inlay all of the writing on the blade with the gold brass. Something like was done on the Salyans recently...

Engraved bolster and buttcap on the khuk, then if the sarki is up to it, get them to make special scabbards for them too. Maybe have some manner of special royal scene in the leather like the old ones had... like this one on an old Sirupate for example:

I like the idea of a 'gentleman's khukuri', I would personally like see it in an even smaller version, maybe around 10" overall without the Karda and Chakma to save weight. I'm just generally a fan of small fixed blades. :p

I'm going to have to second Warty's request about the scabbards it just would not do to put such a detailed piece in a "plain brown wrapper." Perhaps carved & inlaided wood instead of leather. Yangdu this does not mean it has to be shipped in a special box:p We like our USPS priority boxes just fine.

Wow! :D Very cool!

Great to see the fresh creative process at work ... thinking the carved or stamped scabbards and the U.B. in Devangari are great ideas.

I have to agree with Terisa, keep the size of the blade on the large size, everything royal is on the large size isn't it? That's one of the ways to tell the difference. I also have to agree with Warty, a special blade deserves special "clothes" an ordinary scabbard would just not do it justice.

hi terisa
just to help balance the blade properly i think if the handle was one inch shorter it would be spot on as 5 inches is plenty big enough for most euro size hands
and some sort of fancy pattern on the leather of the scabard would go down well to

Wow, Terisa

That is one great looking design:) I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see that HI will one day continue to be in great hands. Keep up the good work:D

For a blade that size, a little bit extra handle is just fine. Six inches may seem like a lot but controlling that much blade is easier when the hand isn't about to slip off. :)

True. If the pommel is going to not be widely flared then a longer handle is the way to go!

Great work Terisa!
Make a 15" design with a shorther handle as well.
I just love the karda blade design too! looks very functional.
Not bad for a first khuk design:thumbup:

I can only say three things:

A) This should be quite an eye-dazzler.
B) The 3.5" handle length would be too short for someone my height (6'1").
C) It's nice to see someone else who enjoys this kind fo technical Drafting & Design. have you considered learning CAD?

It's 3.5" handle width and 6" length from what I gather.

The handle is 6" long with a 3.5" grip circumference.

Terisha: Looks great!
I too would not make it any smaller (in fact, 18-19" would be better -- add the length to the blade, not the handle).

I'd also suggest a bit more flare near the pommel -- I think kukri look better with a bit of a bell bottom.

Add another vote for a carved scabbard.

Not singling you out CORP, just picking you because I agree most with this post... other than mine. :)

Did my post make it seem like I was voting for a smaller OAL/Blade? If so it was wrong and I plead lack of sleep due to tooth ache as the reason I said it. ;) I am more wanting it to stay where she has it of maybe even be a tad bigger say around 18 inches?

I always like the "bell bottom" look. If you are able to work a belled handle into this one... it would be heaven.
