Theres probably a thread on this but I couldnt find it.
What kind of sharpening items does everyone keep in their wilderness/backpacking/bugoutbag/etc. kit? Aside from sand paper- a small dual sided stone? What kind of grits? Something ceramic rod or plate for touch ups? Anyone have a Fallkniven DC3 or DC4?

DMT's paddle style sharpeners are terrific for portable edge care and in a variety of grits including ceramic. Another great choice is the Spyderco pocket ceramics, the Double Stuffand the 701 profile hones, both are my favorites.

I do. I've actually got both, and they work just fine. The smaller one is really quite small; I use it a lot on longer trips. The bigger one is used for regular maintenance at home. The stones are well made, and the ceramic side gives a nice, clean edge. The stones come with a sheath made of fairly thick leather. Nice.

Ever since I got them I put my DMT Diafold into semi-retirement.

An old Eze-Lap diamond rod that screws into it's own handle. Now they have various models and grits.

DMT fine diafold. . . the red one. I've been thinking about picking up one of the extra fine ones to try out.

The double stuff looks nice, do you find the medium edge very useful or not? Because the fine only can be had for half price..

Does the DC4 stone fit flush with the leather sheath or does it stick it out about an inch? That probably wouldnt be good for packing because it might break off.

I carry the ezy lap extra fine that comes on a plastic paddle about 4 inches by 3/4. I've glued a strip of honing leather on the back that is charged with paste.

Cut a section of a wire coat hanger and place it in the wallet - portable butcher's steel.

Wrap it in a small piece of grip tape and you have a compact tool for re-setting an edge bevel.

Carry some high grit (1000+) Sandpaper in the wallet for touch-ups.

Use your pants leg as a strop.

Find a thin piece of material (Lots of things work, cardboard, newspaper, leather etc) and load it up with stropping compound and stick it in the wallet.

I carry a double sided folding paddle style Eze lap hone with medium (400) grit on one side and extra fine (1200) grit on the other.. works really well.
If I want to strop... I use some cardboard or the back of a writing pad.
