Here's a composite of pictures of my first "from scratch" sarki sheath. I re-sawed some 3X3 basswood into 1/2" slabs for the core. I used a different lacing pattern so I won't get sued by a "legitimate" sarki for intellectual property violations. :D

Fine job - also like the finish on the Penknife. How did you get the frog retention ridge on the top of the scabbard? Also, how did you carve it out - with chisels?

The inside carving was done with sharp chisels:3/4" and 1 1/2--- and the outside was shaped with a jack plane and a spokeshave. A lot of fun to make.

Nice work Brian, good pics too. Did you subdue the brass as well as put the patina on the blade?

I work the handle down with small files, then sand the whole handle down with abrasive cloth and paper 'till i looks the way I want. Brass gets a 600 grit finish, a 4/0 steel wool rub, and a dab of Simichrome on a rag...
No power polishing - the Baldor polishing lathe is in storage under the workbench.

The pix are done by puting the stuff right on the flat bed scanner :D How easy is that?

Yes mustard with some added lemon juice and onion. I find that using various kinds of stuff produces differnt color tones on the steel.
