Companion sheath & handle

I'm looking at buying a Companion, I can't find one to look at so I thought I'd ask a few questions before ordering.

What's the sheath like? I was reading somewhere that it may not be as durable as the knife. Is that true? If so, can it be fixed?

Can the butt of the handle take a beating? Not that I plan to, but sometimes....

Any help you can send my way would be greatly appreciated and I hope that in the future I can reciprocate.
Thanks,
Allen

Welcome to Bladeforums! I love the Campanion sheath; I think everybody does. However, no sheath could possibly be as durable as that knife -- especially not kydex; kydex sheaths last for years but not for generations. The butt is great for hammering. More info in my review

Allen,
As Cougar mentioned, I don't thibnk we could make a sheath as tough as the BK2[CAMPANION], unless we made it from .250" steel! We are very proud of the sheath system we use with the BK2, and the workmanship that EDGEWORKS puts into it. We have shipped ALOT of BK@'s, and only had 1[!] sheath returned, which we replaced immediately. That sheath was exposed to some extremely low temperatures, and I'm not sure ANY kydex sheath could have survived. If you get one of our BK&T's, and you are not pleased with its performance, please let us know. We want you to be a happy customer.

Thanks for the interest!

Cougar and Will,
Thank you both for taking the time to respond to my post. The comment about the sheath being as tough as the knife wasn't meant to be taken quite so literally, but I guess you had no way of knowing that. I'll be putting in an order soon, I thought of two more questions if it's not too much trouble. What first attracted me to this knife was the handle, I have these long fingers that tend to bunch up on smaller handles. I have trouble finding a good fit. I'm hoping that this handle will rid me of this problem. Are all the handles on BK&T products the same and if the Companion fits shouldn't the rest?
Thanks again,
Allen
P.S.
Thanks for the review Cougar

Allen,
All of the scales on the currently produced BK&T's come out of the same mold, so yes they are the same. They overall handle may feel slightly different depending on model, because the tangs on some models are thicker than others. For instance, the CAMPANION is made from .230" stock, and then the scales are bolted on. The PATROL MACHETE is from .188" stock, so the entire handle is .042" thinner. You can feel the difference, but in practical application, it doesn't make much difference. I think you will like the performance and ergonomics of the BK&T's.

It doesn't seem to be possible to make one handle that can please everybody, but the Becker handle comes close. It's very fat and chunky and it's not slablike as you might think from a picture; it swells in the middle.... It's great for people with large hands (I take an XL or XXL glove size) and it works better than I expected for small hands too. I got a number of women with very small hands to try it and most of them like it. One who has the smallest hands I could find on an adult said she could use it but she would like it better if it weren't so fat -- that's the most negative comment I got from anybody.

It relies on shape rather than texture for grip. A few people have wrapped it in friction tape or roughed it up with coarse sandpaper to add texture, but most of us like it the way it is and find the shape is enough for a very secure and comfortable grip.
