Hello gentlemen. I am looking for a knife to be a companion to my KaBar Kukri in outdoors and survival. I mostly look at BK9 and BK7, but i don't want to carry 2 big blades. ( To tell you my hearts pain, i also drooling for BK5, but it seems thin to me for batoning and if needed pry-onen something in emergency. Is it sturdy.? Awesome knife otherwise.. :) It must also be capable of task the kukri does, if the kukri breaks in the wilderness. Thanks in advance. :D
I must also add that these three are in 5-10 euros difference, forgive my english. :p
Please, talk me into 7, or if you have bulletproof facts in the 5.!

Have you looked at the JAB Potbelly ? A very capable and slicey knife in the mid size range. It comes highly recommended around here, and its Kabar so you know its well made.

If you want an indestructible knife that can serve as a pry bar, you should probably get a 2. I wouldn't try that with a 5, even though I think it could probably take a certain amount without snapping. If it's to be a companion piece to the Kukri, a 5 should be a fine backup. It's light, too.

Honestly?

My opinion is if you already have a big knife, then you don't really need medium size knife.

I'd recommend a BK-15, BK-16, BK -17, or perhaps even the small Beckers BK-11 and BK14.

I'd go with a bk-2 or a bk-16. The 2 is the toughest knife I've ever used but the 16 is much lighter and still pretty capable.

With all respect, i do not want a small becker ( got a folder and my homemade skinner, for small stuff), but something, to cover everything if my Kukri fails, I think i'll go with the 7, can even use it as a fighter, because Kukri is huge for that, and i think it is capable to withstand whatever you throw it. Carrying both KaBar Kukri and BK9 seems a little overkill.... :P Except if someone can prove me wrong.. :)

If that is your approach, I can not fault the logic behind that notion.

The BK-7 is a good choice. It's one of the most versatile Beckers. My 7 has done well for me, anyway.

Thanks for the answers... By the way here in Greece we only have limited beckers of the whole line :( wish i could afford both the 7 and the 9.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. Just get the 7 and either be happy or learn for yourself you don't want to carry two large knives :) The BK-7 is a great knife and very capable knife. I have put mine through hell and the only effects ar some wear in the coating.

After seeing some reviews of it, your opinion silverthorn changed my mind for good. Thanks man. Potbelly seems like the best combination of BK5 and BK7. You can chop and baton like the 7, but you can choke up for finer and controlled cuts like the 5. And if you left alone with only this knife, i dare to say that it will do pretty (if not near perfect ) fine. The handle seems a little weird but i think it would be easy to grind of the extra metal between the fingers to create one equally curvy line. Don't know how to do the same with the scales, so paracord it is :)

You can't go wrong with the Potbelly. It feels weird at first, but you get used to it pretty quick. It's a beast of a knife for its size.
