I just started a new job today. It seems that I have no choice in the matter. Company policy clearly states that "all employees will carry a sharp folding type knife at all times."

I even had to sign that I would!!Well, looks like my boss and co-workers arn't sheeple. Sweet. Jeff

Has your arm stopped hurting yet??? You know, from where they twisted it??

Yes, Raptor, it is doing much better thanks.

I just had to laugh when I read (and signed that.)

The funny thing was that a few minutes earlier a co-worker saw my two knives clipped into my pocket. When I looked up at him he was smiling and nodding his head.

Well I work for a high end landscape company
That contracts all kinds of stuff from waterfalls to concrete to spas. And of course installing and maintaining landscapes.

I just might have to forward this thread to my boss for his review.

That's cool Salamander, doesn't it feel good?
At my job printing the NY Daily News everyone also carries a knife for cutting paper rolls, straps, and for emergencies(it's an ugly thing when clothing gets caught in a press printing 70,000 newspapers an hour).
Mostly they all carry crappy knives, but I can wear a Randall, or my Gaston or whatever and it doesn't get a second look.
Good for you bud, enjoy it.

Its nice to know that some companies still recognize a knife as a tool and not a weapon. The Sheeple and P.C. crowd in this country are so lost I'm surprised they allow plasic knives in their lunchrooms!

Bravo !

Perfectly sensible that they require you to have proper tools. Do you think it's in the manual just to make a statement, or because they have had employees opening boxes etc. with keys, screwdrivers, and the like ?

the inimitable James Mattis had a saying (help me out if I'm wrong): "Would you use a knife to start your car ? So why use a key to open a package ?"

... or something like that.

I got them beat. Right now, I'm patenting a self-tightening shoe fastener. (Simple design, two pieces, injected molded Delrin.) As a future 'fat-cat' CEO, I plan to issue all new employees Microtech knives and a Edge-Pro will be on-site! Of course, we'll also be near a target range and cappuccino will be available (okay, so I've gotten soft in my old age...) The reason? I live within spitting distance--and I spit on them often--of the 'Peoples' Republic of Madison, Wisconsin.' I think the local commie rag newspaper--The Wisconsin State Urinal--will tie itself in knots when it finds one of the new up-and-coming companies in Dane County is being run by an unrepentant redneck.--OKG

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

Wow great policy. My "company" requires me to carry a gun, knife, pepper spray, baton, handcuffs, radio, gloves, keys, body armor and Shotgun in the rack. No wonder my back hurts. Whew... I bet I pack an extra 20 pounds (along with the 15 above the belt)

Take care and congrats on the new job

Lifter4him, Yeah, it feels good. Never though I'd see the day when I HAD to have a knife at my job!

Redvenom, Yeah there are some more openings. The only problem is you would have to switch countrys to get it.

Jake.....Right on!

Pyrguy, They pay me! At least twice what they should. For goodness sakes I have to carry a knife.

Later, Jeff

RH, I think it is in the policy because the owner realizes the importance of a knife. I think he likes em'. I'll ask him one day.

I don't make them carry them but I issue all of my maintenance people and landscapers a multitool. I get them whatever one they want. They're pretty evenly split between the Gerber, the Leatherman Supertool and the Wave.
