Hey guys -

I have read a lot of folks less than thrilled with the legendary Emerson CQC-7, for protection and beating (even prying from what I've read) on does Spyderco have anything that matches the Emerson? Is there anything outside Spyderco that I should look at?

Military, para 2, manix, manix xl. The endura comes in wave and so does the matriarch. All are awesome.

Prying is a bad idea with a knife --->.<---

I have used several Spydercos while on combat deployments. A Native 2 LW saw duty in the mortar pits in 2007, and I used and abused Manix 2 XLs in 2012. I believe the Manix 2 LW to be one of the most useful and practical folding knives ever made, and if I ever had to defend myself with a folding knife, the Manix 2 XL would be my first choice.

I will say that I refuse to carry a "hard use" folder with a liner lock. I much prefer the CBBL on the Manix 2 series, or even a good back lock, to any liner lock.

The P'Kal would be my number one choice for a self defense knife. I wouldn't want it for much else. Check out the yojimbo as well.

Thank you all :-)

@Spectre - thank you for the info. I've been eyeing the military's and also the Manix. Just can't decide if I want it that bad it not or if a part of me needs fulfilled by finally getting the Emerson..

@firefighterguy
Have any links? I'll check them out :-)
If not I'll google it :-)

I have great affection for the Manix 2 XL. Rock solid, very nice cutting geometry, surprisingly tough and the lock is plenty strong, reliable and easy to use. I honestly think it's one of the more underrated folders in the Spyderco lineup.

You know the bad thing - I have lost two SE original Enduras - I really wish I would find them, both were brand new and daily carry for a long time with little use...

I whole heartedly agree. My Sprint-run Manix 2 XL in Carbon and S90V is one of my favorites. But, will probably be replaced once the S110V comes out in the future.

I own a CQC-7. It is a wimpy, emaciated emo of a knife compared to a Spyderco Tuff. There are many knives in the Spyderco lineup that vastly outperform the 7.
