compare Buck vs. CRKT

I've never had a Buck so I can't comment on them. I do have a CRKT similar to that model, only smaller and a slightly different design, but same overall concept. It's completely satisfied my EDC needs. Spyderco knives are worth looking at too IMO.

I had one of the bucks your interested in,i did not like the lock for the blade; when the blade is open, this lock sticks out of the top of the knife & is annoying.it has a sharp point on it,too. its also a bit tricky to use that lock when you first get it.the liner is also pretty thin.i saw a guy at walmart showing a customer one, he had trouble opening the blade locking device, & ended up cutting his finger open.i would look at one in person if you could, the crkt may be the better choice.....

The CRKT is better steel at a better price. I used to love Buck but I feel that they have not moved with the time and are selling things based on name alone. Admittedly I am a CRKT fan but that is my opinion- none of my M-16's dissapoint me at all.

I do like the CRKT better, but I feel I should do my part for the "Made in the USA" team. The RAT folders have also caught my eye, and they seem to be in about the same price ballpark. Any idea where these are made? and quality?
Thanks for all of the advice.

I would have to go with the crkt for 2 reasons. 1. I like aus 8 better than 420hc, 2. I don't like assisted openers. I don't blame you for wanting to buy american, i've got several bucks and like them a lot. I believe the rat folders are made in taiwan and think the steel is aus 8. they're supposed to be an awesome knife. good luck with your choice. if possible buy both as you can never have enough knives. just all your bank account and wife can stand. later, ahgar
