tonite was cleaning up all my old knives, oiling/etc, and was looking at my gerber FS11, which i got in about '80. at that time it was supposed to be THE self defense folder. kinda like a slim buck knife, mine has a drop point blade about 4", w/a nail nick only, no studs/holes/etc on this one. and no pocket clip either. and this thing is HEAVY too, but i would say the lockback is prob as strong as most today. but compared to my BM 806SD@ axis AFCK, it looked like something outta the stone age lol. very much smoother action, better ergos, a pocket clip, lighter, just a lot better knife imho. and that gerber was almost $50, a tidy sum in those days.
kevin steele in SOF magazine touted the FS11 as the best thing in folders right now, but 20+ yrs later, theres a lot better now, imho.
i would say things are improving, we have much to be thankfull for in the knife world lately, pocket clips, opening holes/studs, waves, axis locks, we should be thankfull.
how did i ever get by w/that old FS11??? i remeber it was a clunker for pocket carry, usually carried it in a belt sheath.
wonder if an old FS11 in good shape is worth anything these days?? any of ya guys or gals use to have one?? any other old knives like this?? ya dont see many FS11's w/drop points, i had to order the one i have yrs ago, most were bowie blades i think they called them, correct me if wrong (i have one of those to, but not in such good shape)
