I just got a SOG Flash II and was immediately struck by it similarity to the Kershaw Whirlwind.
The edge length is exactly the same length and almost the same profile. The serrated section is on the SOG is slightly longer than the Kershaw.
Though the handles don't look at all alike, they feel remarkably similar in the hand. Both of the handles are about the same length. On the weight side, the SOG is quite a bit lighter, probably because it doesn't have liners.
Now to my most important question. How do the two assisted opening systems behave? Quite well, thank you. The Kershaw is slightly more forceful than the SOG, though both open quite solidly. The Kershaw is slightly faster, though maybe because I have been using it for several year. The SOG has studs on both side, but for some reason the Kershaw has has a stud on only the right side.
On the locking system, they both work fine. The Kershaw liner lock has performed just well. The SOG barlock locks up solid as well, though it is harder to close one-handed.
Having now handled these two knifes, I am struck by how much they are a like. The SOG looks cooler though
