Can anyone do comparison pics of these two. I think one of these knives will be my first FF.

Also, any thoughts on handle scale material? I'm interested in reducing the weight of the knife to under 6. So how does burlap differ from micarta or wood?

And what are other variations of the sneaky Pete? Asp???

I'm sure someone can do better. The best I have for now is a Sneaky Pete side by side with a Bushfinger

Then that same Bushfinger side by side with a Kephart

The handle scale weights vary, but I haven't owned enough of the models with wooden handles to give advice there. The best advice I can give weight wise is that the tapered tang models are the least handle-heavy.

.

It's been my experience that most wood handles are a bit lighter.

Commercial phenolics are heavier than woods. For most species, the difference is significant. Ironwood is heavy, but still not nearly as heavy as micartas. But wood also requires maintainance, and there is nothing you can do to TOTALY stop movement. Even stabilized woods will warp in very hot dry environments though they are better at handling moisture. Stabilized wood gets slick when its wet though. Even so, I love using Osage and other non stabilized woods on handles I carry because they are light and grippy.

The rule does not apply to Shadetree Phenolics products. Basically Shadetree products are the best of both worlds. They are almost maintainance free, and still have the stability of commercial micarta. Maybe the best feature of Shadetree stuff is how grippy it is. Really its the state of the art of manmade handle materials.

You want grippy, buy the pro-Kephart. It sticks like glue even when wet. Amazing hard use knife.

I've owned all three, but only kept the Asp. For me, I love the curves (as compared to the Kephart) and how nimble it feels (as compared to the SP).

Here are some comparison pics I found online.

Kephart in the middle, Asp on the bottom.

Asp on the top, SP on the bottom.

And thank you Kris for reminding me I still need another Asp, which I also like more than the SP for the same reasons. Jeeez, between Andy and you guys, I am just going to be planning my next knife purchases for the entirety of eternity :D

I have a Kephart, but a tuxedo ASP is my EDC. I'm never giving up that knife. Ever. Of course, I also have a Sneaky Pete in Kirinite scales that I'm really fond of too...

Too many choices.
