Comparison Picture Request - Hairy Carry 4" LE alongside Rodent Trail

Or does it have to be just the HC & RT in the pic?


HC seems to have just over 3.5" blade so it might be the smaller one. :confused:

I suspected you might have a few in that range, elof. :) Thanks for posting that up, it's going to be handy for a lot of comparisons.

Yes that one is the smaller of the two, and I was looking for the 4-incher comparison, since that is what I picked up off the exchange. However, after thinking it over, I believe I can make a decision based off the handles alone.

I was hoping the 4" HC was going to be just right, but it doesn't fit my hand as well as the Rodent Solution, so it may end up being a catch and release. Too bad, really. It's very nice. I'm hoping the Rodent Trail is going to combine the best parts of the RS (handle) and HC4. I'll try to get a comparison shot of HC4 and RS put up later as it might help someone else down the road.

-oops, nevermind, the pics just didn't load the first time. I'd have to agree, I've never handled an RS, but I have handled an HCLE ;) and I think that RS handled/HC bladed combo you mentioned might be what I had in mind as well. Thanks for pointing out that difference, I hadn't thought to look there

Thanks, Dave, I was 99% positive they came with black G10.

A couple of years ago I started a thread pushing for a Rodent Solution LE with 154cm, but, like all other "gimmie threads" here it got no love. I might just have to find a 4" HCLE to try and scratch that particular itch. Are they about the same weight and thickness?

Weight and thickness is almost identical. The balance is different. If you look at where the rivets line up in the handle, they are spaced almost exactly the same on both models. But look at where the index finger would lie on each--nearly under the rivet on the RS, but well behind the rivet on the HC. That changes the balance point and makes the HC feel a little lighter than the RS to me, even though it's listed at 0.1 oz heavier (6.5 vs 6.4).

I'd just say that RS feels a bit clunky, the handle is just a bit too heavy for the blade size. Rat Trail has a pretty much perfect balance.
If RS had the LB treatment or at least tapered tang it would be pretty much perfect. I love the handle shape and ergos.
