Many here know my situation, no need to go into it again. I will be going on a few hikes again soon, and the only two things missing from my kit is water filtration and a compass. Not really worried about water at the moment.

Because I am broke as a joke at the moment, but still need a decent compass, I am going to try and trade for one. I am sure I can find something someone wants. Are there any problems with going for an older compass, or a used one? What should I look out for in my search? I was told by a friend to try for a Linsatic, but to be honest, I know nothing on this subject at all. I wont be doing any asmyths (sp?), I just want to know which direction I am going.

I would love to be able to go out and buy one that will last many years over, and one that I can grow into once I learn the craft of proper map reading. That isnt an option for me at the moment though. So, any help with what to look out for, or what to aim for in the low end range that I may be able to trade for would be appreciated. This weekend I plan on watching every youtube video from Brian Andrews on the subject, as I know he has made quite a few.

Thanks for any help pointing me in the right direction.
