Okay so in my ever ending search for some new gizmo or other I'm looking for a watch that also has a compass.

I don't want a digital watch but rather an analog watch. I think that eleminates most of the Casios.

I've been thinking about getting one of the Timex compass watches. Does anyone have any experience with those?

Are there other alternatives I'm not thinking of? I'm also looking to spend something around 50 dollars or less.

Whoa, $50 killed it. Maybe Campmor in digital, or Field and Stream with a flip up combo watch, but the market is small enough that I don't think you'll find one that cheap.

The Timex I looked at recently online was about $95 - analog, compass needle coaxial with the hands on the dial. I believed it used the interior mag field sensor and that was connected to the needle, not a simple magnetized needle itself. That would certainly justify some of the cost.

I'm sure others will chime in with some good links and direction - perhaps my limited view of compass watches will be expanded by this thread.

Sigh, I know that may be asking the impossible. Okay what do you have that is more than 50 dolllars? I was trying to spend less because I am pretty hard on stuff...

I had a Field & Stream watch that had a compass beneath the face of the watch. The watch itself was an analog watch with a date function, glow in the dark face, and second hand. The compass worked very well and I found it to be accurate. It had a scale on it and markings so that it could be used for orienteering. I tried it out for that purpose in a test environment and it worked just fine. I use a regular compass for orientation however as it easy, if not easier, than using the watch. The watch held up very well and I put wristwatches through the ringer.

The watch went for 50-100 USD. I bought the watch from a department store that stocked it. It appears that Cabela's carries the watch (item # XH-626907). There are; however, several incarnations of the watch. I believe National Geographic has their own version of the watch. A variety of companies have made their own version of the watch with differing markings and colors. Good luck finding a watch/compass you like.

Thanks! I appreciate the pointer.

a buddy of mine has a suunto, it has a compass, barometer, wind speed indicator, wind chill indicator and i think it'll also cook your lunch and drive you home. he loves it. Me i'd take this opportunity to buy a good analogue watch and a good compass. remember he who dies with the most toys wins.

I have to admit I'm considering that. There's these little compasses you can clip on your watchband all over ebay...

Careful, a lot of those are junk.

countycomm.com is closing out their Maratac (made by Timex) compass
watches. I have heard good things about these.
