ZERO!

Been carrying spydercos in my rotation the last ten years. I train with them and play with them daily. Although the number of models that specifically appeal to me is small, i have always ranked the company very high for service, quality, consistency, reputation, performance, fit and finish, warranty, design, ergos, and so on. Ive only seen one spyderco with a problem EVER. An endura trainer with gritty action that i couldnt polish out. Lemons happen. I voided the warranty when i attempted to fix it, so my bad.

Ive personally experienced the exact opposite of the above with another high end company touted for the exact same virtues. In the Shiny Footprints spirit, im afraid i cant elaborate much.

With Spyderco, its a crap shoot that you might have a problem. With the other, its a crap shoot that you might get one without.

Im no spyderco fan boy. I appreciate and carry all kinds of others. I am a fan of consistency and performance.

As alluded to in my other thread, ive always respected Sal for his attention and his company's reputation. But experiencing this first hand, over my petty curiousity, has now pushed my respect for Sal and Spyderco to the top of my list.

For opposite reasons. The other company has recently sunk to the bottom.

Please forgive any negative tone in my references. I just wanted to post some specific love for Spyderco, and felt the stark contrast of my other experience would be comparatively relevant.

Thanks for reading, and thanks again Sal and Spyderco!

Could not agree more, in my opinion there is no comparison in terms of customer service and overall quality.

My only complaint is that I keep buying them. If not for myself for my friends and family as gifts.

I love my paras but I have to be honest the grinds from the factory are pretty hit and miss my last 2 have been terribly uneven.

I'm agreeing with you on this.
My small but slowly growing folder collection used to include equal numbers of Spyderco's and another brand.
That stopped over a year ago when I had 7 of each. Since then I have acquired 7 more Spyderco's, only 1 of the other and that other 1 came with a way off centered blade when closed. A disappointment I don't get with Spyderco.

Have all the Spydercos I've seen have a perfectly centered blade when closed? No, most have but not all.
Have any been off center enough to complain about? No I don't think so, the few that are off center are only slightly so.
Sometimes grinds are a bit uneven, but that disappears after a visit to Wicked Edge land so doesn't really bother me.

I've had only 3 issues from the at least 25 Spydercos I have bought for myself and others.
1: A Manix 2 S30V hollow grind came with about 1/4" of edge on the belly a bit dull. Otherwise the edge was fairly sharp. Bit of work with the WE and all was well, so no biggy to me. Otherwise the Manix was excellent, very smooth, excellent lock up, blade centered, such a nice folder I didn't mind too much that the edge got slightly dinged somehow before I got it.

2: A Manix 2 XL I sourced for a fitter at work came with a bit of side to side play when open, more so than any other Spyderco I've had. Tightened the pivot a bit which improved it but not able to get quite the same balance of easy blade movement without a bit of side to side play as I can with my own Manix XL. Perhaps I'm being a bit fussy with that one 'cos it doesn't move much at all, just not quite as good as my XL. Otherwise the knife is great, it's a fitters work knife and he loves it.

3: Sourced a Perrin Street Bowie for a mate, and that was the only Spyderco I've seen that came with what I would call a bad edge, very uneven grind, lots of tiny chips along at least 1/2 the edge, just not sharp at all with damage to most of it. It took me a lot of work with the WE to get it all even and properly sharp.
This would be my only experience where I felt the buyer had fair reason for complaint (except I fixed it) about a new Spyderco.

None of this is meant as a down on Spyderco, on the contrary, 14 of my 25 folders are Spydies for good reason and most days it's a Spyderco in my pocket. In my limited experience I have come to admire the products and the company.

Living in the Antipodes I can't see or handle folders before I buy, and sending back something with a fault is mailing it half way round the world. I order a Spyderco on the interweb with confidence.
