So I just received my Sharpmaker, immediately threw the dvd into my computer, just hoping for an intro. Well, imagine my surprise when I see Sal Glesser teaching me about knives and sharpening! I have to say the human element is a big . I just have to say, what a quality product, and having read Mr. Glesser's posts on Bladeforums, what a gentleman. My only wish is that I could have Mr. Glesser for a father/grandfather (My grandfather is estranged from the family... Mr. Glesser? Please?) My knife obsession could have started sooner, I would always have known how to sharpen knives, and he is a perfect gentleman. Perhaps a little too over the top, I know, but I just had to post this as a counterbalance to the troll's thread on Spyderco "falling behind". Well, as far as I'm concerned, Mr. Glesser can look forward to having me in the market for his knives as long as they are produced, and being that I'm still in college, I hope to go for quite a while. Thanks again Mr. Glesser for all your contributions to the knife community, and to society at large. The only possibly un-gentlemanly behavior I could accuse Mr. Glesser of is tempting me to empty my bank account on the many new knives in their lineup. :D

Hi Zero,

Thanx much for the kind words. Appreciate.

However, I must say that you are only seeing my "good side". Like everyone else, I, too, have my "other" side.

You stay in college and "be all you can be". You are our hope for the future.

The trick is keeping that "good side" turned to face the world. You do that better than many.

I also feel the same admiration for Sal, even though I only have one of his knives and his Sharpmaker.:p

Now if only we could sweet talk him into making an "angle adjustable" base as an option for the Sharpmaker (15 degrees inclusive to maybe 50 degrees inclusive?) and a "Military" or "Manix" in CPM M4, or even "Rex M-2"! :D:D

Good thread. I want Sal to be my grandpa too.....the kind of grandpa that gives away knives to his grandkids at Christmas and birthdays. Whatyasay, Sal? I'm already through college so I wouldn't be hitting you up for tuition.

I sorta just wrote this thread so that I could share with other forumites my experiences with Spyderco being nothing but . I never expected the man himself to read this post or respond to me..
Mr. Glesser, I fully understand everyone is only human. Nonetheless, after shaking hands with Jack Welch of GE (whose colorful history I DO know), I felt a sense of wonder; and while I haven't met you in person, you definitely fall high on my list of admired businessmen. Besides, my idea of a grandfather is something akin to Robert Duvall- capable, wise, a gentleman, and can whittle (even if you don't whittle, just because your company makes the Kiwi, I hereby declare you an honorary whittler :D).

Finally, I just wanted to let you know that while my collection is basically a few spydercos and benchmades, everytime I use a Spydie at college, someone says "Hey, cool, a Spyderco!" The benchmades not only don't attract attention, but no one knows the brand at all. Spyderco is alive and well with the young.
That's it. Keep making the excellent new products, and I can assure you, you will have a ready customer here. Believe me, I know have to graduate college. There's no other way I could afford to buy all the knives from Spyderco that I want without a degree. ;)

p.s. H1 steel is amazing. Keep up the Metallurgical experiments!
p.p.s. Sharpmakers should include a warning not to test the edge with your thumb... I have 6 small bloodless cuts on my thumb from "testing" the edge!
p.p.p.s. No need to respond to this post, Mr. Glesser. I just wanted to thank you again, but not take anymore time than necessary from your forging of new knives!
