I have just completed my collection of the Buck 700 series
701,703,704,705 and just bought a new 709
I am over the moon!
Why did Buck stop making these? IMHO they are the best they ever did!

Adi, good on ya! I always loved the 700 series as well but don't have the full collection. Don't know why they were discontinued but luckily they're still out there, waiting for me!

I can't post pictures for some strange reason.
Pity though as they do look purdy!
It's nice choosing a different EDC to suit each occasion when they all match!
PLEASE BRING THEM BACK BUCK AND MAKE THEM IN THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 4 of the 5 models ranging from about 1984 to 1999. My last knife the 701 U sold for around $50 in most stores. The 301 listed for about $30 or so during that same time. They are really nice knives and have been around for quite a while, I think it might be the cost and carring 2 lines, the 300 and 700 that compete with other as far as form and function. They share no common parts and maybe the 700 line, which was less popular could not be justified.

To me the 700 and 500 lines are some of my favorite knives. Ever notice the 500 line is getting fewer and fewer models. You may also notice more and more 300 (type) knives are made in China.

The 110 will always be my favorite, but I really love the 500 series. Lately the 503 has really moved its way up among my favorites. I like it's drop point a little better than the 55's clip.

As to the China made 300 series, aside from a few new models, all the China 300s have an American made version. The China models use rosewood and the American models use Delrin. The rosewood is pretty, but the Delrin is kind of a classic touch. I'd like to see some 300s with the old maroon Micarta that used to be on the 500 series.

I really like the 700s too. I don't have any, but it's on my to do list in the near future.

I hope you wont think I am bursting your bubble but in order to have the complete set, you really should look for the ones with the horses engraved on the blades. The engraved 701 is the 801, engraved 703 is the 803, ect... They were made to help launch the series and were offered, along with the bi-centenial knife, with matching serial numbers. They can still be found, but it will take some looking.
Take care,

I guess this falls under the category, "Be careful what you ask!" :D Makes me think twice about soliciting expert advice about how many versions of the 110 I have yet to acquire in order to have a complete lineage. :jerkit:

Mike, even thinking about that many 110's gives me a headache.... :( I had thought when I started getting serious about collecting nothing but Bucks, that it would be sweet to have one of each of what I considered the major series - 100 fixed blades - 300 series black pocket knives - 500 series pocket lockback - and 700 series wood pocket knives. As I got more educated, I decided to collect the ones I enjoy having instead of a sampling of each. Makes for a more interesting collection, less headaches, and a happier bank account.
