On the subject of hand sewn sheaths here is a link to the pix and thread of an as forged khukuri blade that I finished and the sheath I made for it.

I left the "hammer dingy" finish and reworked the blade considerably in shape. When I had the shape I wanted I made the enclosed "cho" into a "weeping heart" that was popular on many old style 'Hawks. The blade was polished and blued with Brownells cold blue. The handle is carved from African Knobthorn with copper furniture.

The sheath is made from 9-10 ounce leather and has a total of 7 layers on one side to accommodate the thick spine of the khukuri. The entrance to the sheath is actually 4 layers thick (on one side) with the other 3 layers being the top and bottom and where the belt loop is folded over and tucked over the bottom
layer.
Everything was glued together before I started.

And like Sandy I drilled it with a hand held Dremel.
I like to use either a parabolic flute or a hy spiral drill for leather and I haven't had any problems with them tearing or leaving ragged holes when I get the right speed.

I forgot that Berk had also posted the pic of the plain blades as forged in this thread so you won't need to look at the bottom one unless you wish too.

Yvas---Thanks for mentioning my name! That Dremel tool is a little gem and with practice it is one of the most indispensible tools in the
shop. After 50 years I finally broke down and purchased a harness stitcher---Life again has meaning!
I now can again flex my fingers without a grimace. At this point in my life I have probably made over 20,000 knife sheaths, holsters, gun belts, etc. And, woould you believe, I still enjoy the challenge of each
piece------Sandy

Verey nice work

Parabolic bit makes a lot of sense now that you mention it, wish I'd thought of that.
