Finally got around to installing one of the 3-pack Snaggletooth MF mods that I got specifically for my Recon 1 and I completely stripped the thumbstud screw in less than 2 min. Used a Wiha bit and driver too...

This ever happen to anyone else? Looking for best suggestions for how to remedy this...

I've dealt with stripped screws before with power tools doin stuff around the house, but never messed with something as precise and delicate as a folder...

Is it the Snaggletooth screw that’s stripped? Also, is the head stripped or is it the threads?

Ask Snaggletooth for a new screw.

No, the Cold Steel OEM thumbstud screw head is stripped. Sorry for not being specific. It's the slotted side of the thumbstud on the Recon 1.

I use a soldering iron held to the non slotted side until the slotted side gets almost too hot to hold, and then use pliers or channel locks with tape or something over the teeth to unscrew the slotted side.

You could use the plastic tubing that came with the Snaggletooth for this as well, but I think it’s harder to hold firmly with pliers.

I think that Cold Steel uses LocTite or some similar substance that needs heat to be released; I went through the same thing once.

If you are worried about damaging your knife, send them the Recon and they'll do the install for you. One of my buddies did this.
