Complimentary 12OT

I had a 12OT, and thought it would make a good knife to throw in my pocket and let my 7 year old daughter use when she saw me using my knife and wanted to "help". Unfortunately, the day I got it I was cleaning it up and sharpening it and my wife decided that it looked like a "cool little knife", so I was left without a 12OT. I just today received my replacement. I wanted one that was new in box with papers, as this is something I want to carry for some years, as I have 3 kids that will all go through their old enough to use, but not unsupervised, stage. The knife I got today is engraved "Compliments of Schrade Cutlery 1991". I did a little digging and found that these were given to Schrade dealers by the Schrade sales force. I don't want to ruin something that might be a keepsake for somebody else. I don't know how rare these complimentary knives are, or what they're worth. If anybody wants to trade me a regular 12OT that's new in box with papers for this engraved one I'd be happy to do so. I'd take a 12UH or 18OT as well as these look to be similar in size, unless these models are more valuable. I don't really know the values of Schrade knives. Of course, I'm not looking for anything made in China.

I know that there's a trading forum, but I'm hoping that the mods will let this stay, as I'm not looking to profit at all. I'm trading what I'm guessing is a collectible knife for a run of the mill of the same exact knife or a similar sized one. If these things are a dime a dozen please let me know and I'll just go ahead and use the one I have. I'm just trying to avoid using this one and then finding out in a week that somebody was looking to complete a set and needed it or something similar.

Thanks for your time.

Hi from Australia, I have been collecting those Complimentary Schrade knives for many years now.
The 12UH is the same knife as the 12OT, with a different handle. This is a 12UH with an etched blade. The 18OT is a smaller knife.

Sure thing, I might be weird but the one thing that's important to me is that it's a "new" knife I'm getting. Just meaning that it's unused. Is the one you're sending unused? You can email me at cory.hess at charter.net and we can exchange info. I'm wondering what the shipping costs will be to Australia.

I only collect things that are new. I have been collecting things for 65+ years now and I have always fond that is the way to go. (FOR ME PERSONLY)

I shot you a PM, but I didn't think you could get them because you're a Registered User? If it doesn't come through you can email me at the address above.

G'day Ken, you said" I only collect things that are new"...I can see that would be desirable however the word 'only' I find as a fellow Schrade collector bizarre...some of my most cherished Schrade pieces cannot be regarded as new, yet still very desirable to have, and to hold, for a collector like myself...do you mean unused when you use the word 'new'?...

I personally wouldn't like to see new chum Schrade collectors think that they should be restricted to 'new' to have a desirable piece of U.S. Schrade/knifemaking history..

I go so far as to say my whole Schrade collecting experience/enjoyment through the years would have been more than halved if I 'only' settled on 'new' as my collector bench mark..I have had many new in box Schrades, many also unused, but some of my most pleasing pieces to own have definitely been pre-loved and used even.....just my thoughts and I know different things ring different collectors bells......Hoo Roo....

I don't mind having a few used ones around... you know... just to keep them off the street. These pics will stay up for a LIMITED time.

I'm sorry for using the word "new".

If when it is taken out of the box, and the last person to see the item, was the person that put it in the box from the factory, I still say it's new... Ken.
