I see lots of threads complaining about all the stupid things NKP (non-knife people) say about your knives, but what about the occasional compliment?
In the six years I've been a knife enthusiast, I've only gotten two compliments from NKPs, but they really stood out, and make me happy when I think of them.
The first was the very first time I ever visited my new doctor, about 8 months ago. He's a younger guy, probably in his 20s. He saw my Sebenza clipped to my pocket and asked if he could see it. He thought it was really cool and asked me all kinds of questions about it. We talked about it more than why I had come in the first place. When the nurse dismissed me, I walk by his office and he called me in. He was on his computer checking out the CRK website and said he might even pick one up for himself. I was absolutely delighted by that.
The second time was when I was at work. I work at an upscale daycare/early learning center, and they had just received a giant, extra thick cardboard box containing a fully assembled rocking love seat for the infant room. The delivery guy and my head director (big boss) were wondering how to get it out, and I happened to be nearby, so I used my Spyderco Urban wharny to cut it out of the box for them. I was nervous about it, as Bright Horizons is a very liberal company, but she was actually really grateful and happy that I had a sharp knife on hand to help out. After we got it out of the box, the delivery guy asked me if I thought I could cut the box down to strips so that he could manage disposing of it easier, and I cut the whole thing down for him with ease. He was blown away, and said that he had never seen such a nice knife before.
I've gotten many compliments from other knife lovers, but those really stood out to me.
